Affordable areas near West Richland?

Longtime lurker here, The median home value here is around $404,300, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What do you all think? Cheers.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Came here for retirement and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The healthcare is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

Moved here from Austin about 9 years ago. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Still getting used to community vibe but Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 14 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. weather used to be much pricey but now it's surprisingly good.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 4 years. Moved from Atlanta for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is tough - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Limited entertainment options. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 9/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
