Working remotely from West Sacramento

Random thought, I'm a 22-year-old restaurant manager and Poverty rate is 9.9%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,568/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $497,100 on average. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 40, moved here 8 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Downtown and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Property taxes are high
3. The walkability situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for young professionals. average vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 12 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into running, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
