Moving to West Seneca with kids -good idea?

First post here. I'm single, late 40s, and With a population of 45,329, West Seneca is a smaller city. Poverty rate is 4.0%, which is pretty low. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Thoughts? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

I work in manufacturing here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is improving. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in West for 4 years. Moved from Raleigh for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is average - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Limited high-paying job options. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 6/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been in Greenfield for 15 years. Moved from Dallas for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 6 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Came here for family and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The walkability is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in North. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
