Best neighborhoods to rent in West University Place?
Hi all, Average temperature is around 71--F, so it's warm year-round. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 29, moved here 3 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Sunset and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The safety situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for couples. decent vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely underrated and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (West) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

The food scene here is hit or miss. Tons of great Mediterranean places. it exceeded my expectations.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The outdoor recreation situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for retirees. challenging vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Old Town area are decent. Kids love it here.
