Military spouse here. Poverty rate is 8.2%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $88,604, which feels pretty solid for the area. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Would love some local perspective. Appreciate any input. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Charlotte about 6 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are manageable, gas is excellent.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely average and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Springfield) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a nurse, 31, moved here 2 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in North and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Affordable housing options
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The healthcare situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for young professionals. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $80K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 2 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into running, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in South. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in marketing. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
