Why I chose West Valley City over bigger cities

Alright, We're a young couple and Average temperature is around 52°F, so expect cold winters. Rent is about $1,445/month for a decent place. With a population of 138K, West Valley City is a mid-size city. Household incomes average around $88,604 in West Valley City. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Phoenix about 6 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is pretty good.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Highland for 1 years. Moved from San Francisco for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is average - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Bugs and humidity in summer. And school system can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 6/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Denver about 10 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is solid.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.
