Couple moving to Westchester from out of state

Hey folks, You can expect to pay around $1,734 for rent here. Average temperature is around 77--F, so it's warm year-round. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What would you do?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Greenfield. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in retail. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Cedar Grove for 2 years. Moved from Phoenix for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Cedar Grove schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 8/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
