Random thought, I'm originally from Cincinnati and Property taxes are high but you get good services. Am I overthinking this?

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The cost of living is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Bought a house here in 2020 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Highland) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the West side, now on the Old Town side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in North. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in legal. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

it depends on the neighborhood

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Dallas about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Definitely worth checking out..

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 15 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
