Random thought, My family moved here when I was a kid. You can expect to pay around $2,794 for rent here. The median home value here is around $644,100, which is pretty steep. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Uptown area are decent. Kids love it here.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a chef, 36, moved here 4 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in South and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The safety situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for young professionals. underrated vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much stable but now it's challenging.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 58, moved here 13 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Midtown and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Can feel isolated
3. The housing market situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**

- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Chicago about 12 years ago. The main reasons were school and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Midtown for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The healthcare scene is tough
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 13 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
