Working remotely from Weston

Hi all, The unemployment rate is 2.4%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Anyone in a similar situation?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Bought a house here in 2018 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely underrated and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (North) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Riverside for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Diverse dining options
- The cost of living scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Riverside. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in finance. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Seattle about 14 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is solid.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 14 years. Moved from Phoenix for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Limited entertainment options. And nightlife can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 5/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Summers can be brutally hot

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is decent.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 58, moved here 13 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in The Heights and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The food scene situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for families. tough vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been in Maple Ridge for 7 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 12 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
