Westphalia in the winter -how bad?

Hey everyone, It's a a small town city with about 12,020 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Westphalia sits at 386.5 per 100K. Median household income is $158,055, which feels pretty solid for the area. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Any advice would be great. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 26, moved here 8 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The weather situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for retirees. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is solid in most areas.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The job market is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Bought a house here in 2018 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 3 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
