Why I chose Westphalia over bigger cities

Been living here since 2020. You can expect to pay around $1,947 for rent here. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Dallas about 15 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

I'm a physical therapist and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 10 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Bought a house here in 2018 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Eastside for 6 years. Moved from Tampa for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 6/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
