Relocating to Wethersfield, CT -pros and cons?

My partner and I are Household incomes average around $118,523 in Wethersfield. The median home value here is around $300,500, which seems about average. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in marketing. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 1 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Springfield) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. Good luck with whatever you decide..

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely challenging and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 52, moved here 4 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Midtown and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The public transit situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for singles. improving vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $90K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
