Hey everyone, With a population of 53,453, Wheaton is a smaller city. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Am I wrong here?

I'm a social worker and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Tampa about 14 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Diverse dining options
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is average.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely hit or miss and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (West) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The weather scene is improving
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Used to live on the Uptown side, now on the East side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.
