Weekend activities in Wheaton?

Longtime lurker here, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Median household income is $119,566, which feels pretty solid for the area. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Bought a house here in 2018 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

The food scene here is decent. Tons of great Italian places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the The Heights side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 54, moved here 8 years ago from New York. I've lived in Westside and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good airport with direct flights
2. Diverse dining options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The outdoor recreation situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for remote workers. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Midtown. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in consulting. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
