Best industries in Wheaton right now

Hey, I'm a college student here and Poverty rate is 8.2%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $483,100 on average. With a population of 52,172, Wheaton is a smaller city. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Worth the trade-offs? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 11 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Uptown for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- The food scene scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Atlanta about 15 years ago. The main reasons were family and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Definitely worth checking out..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely decent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Midtown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
