Best neighborhoods in Wheaton

Hey folks, Military spouse here. The median home value here is around $483,100, which is pretty steep. The unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is about average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. What do you all think? The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I've lived in Lakewood for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:

- Cost of living is very reasonable

- Low crime in most neighborhoods

- The community vibe scene is pretty good

The downsides:

- Homeless population growing downtown

- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..
