Working remotely from Wheaton

Been living here since 2008. The unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is about average. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Has anyone dealt with this? Appreciate any input.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 41, moved here 5 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Eastside and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited entertainment options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The cultural scene situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for singles. solid vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The cost of living is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Greenfield for 15 years. Moved from San Diego for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited shopping options. Homeless population growing downtown. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 8/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Boston about 7 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is pretty good.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'm a electrician and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is improving and there's always something going on.
