Is Wheeling getting better or worse?
Been meaning to ask this. I grew up here but left for a while. The median home value here is around $142,500, which is actually reasonable. Homes are going for about $142,500 on average. It's a a smaller city city with about 26,670 people. Rent is about $795/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Wheeling sits at 778.1 per 100K. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.
Pros:
- Great weather
- Nice parks and trails
- Low crime in most areas
- Plenty of shopping options
Cons:
- Limited dining options
- Homelessness issues downtown
- Not enough green space
What do you all think? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.
