Raising a family in White House Station -thoughts?
Hi all, Been living here since 2022. The unemployment rate is 3.4%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Any advice would be great. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Sunset for 8 years. Moved from Seattle for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
tech is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Limited entertainment options. And housing market can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 14 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Denver about 9 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong sense of community
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is better than expected.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The housing market is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..
