Housing in White Marsh compared to Las Vegas

Used to live on the Highland side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Seattle about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is average.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure

- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is decent.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 14 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in North for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The traffic scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
