What I wish I knew before living in White Plains

OK so I grew up here but left for a while. Homes are going for about $624,100 on average. Median household income is $115,586, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Any help is appreciated. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 54, moved here 15 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The nightlife situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for singles. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $80K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
