Moving to Whitehall with kids -good idea?

Longtime lurker here, I grew up here but left for a while. Homes are going for about $229,200 on average. The median home value here is around $229,200, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 14,863, Whitehall is a small town. Rent is about $909/month for a decent place. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. What are your go-to spots? Thanks for reading. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 40, moved here 15 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Uptown and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The dating scene situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for remote workers. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
