My wife and I are planning to retire in the next few years. We're considering Wichita Falls because of being near family. The weather is great — warm most of the year with an average of 68F.
Cost of living looks pretty reasonable. How's the healthcare situation? Any retiree communities?

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.

Respectfully disagree about the cost of living assessment. In my experience, it's been pretty safe in my area.

Good summary. I'd rate it higher personally — maybe 7/10.

Check out the Northside area. Way more affordable and still close to everything.

Moved here last year. No regrets. Great value for the money.

Rent tip: look for places in fall. Prices drop and there's more availability.

Coming from Dallas, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are slightly more expensive but housing makes up for it.

I work in education and finding a job wasn't hard. Took about 1 months.

As someone who moved here from Houston, I can confirm most of this. The cost of living surprised me the most.

Traffic is the worst part honestly. But if you live near work it's fine.

The job market has been improving lately. Several healthcare companies moved in recently.
