Household incomes average around $63,072 in Wichita. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Would love some local perspective. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

I've lived in Midtown for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The public transit scene is average
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely solid and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Midtown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been here 10 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Nashville about 13 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is improving.
