Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 2 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into running, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The food scene is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

I've lived in East for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
- The cultural scene scene is improving

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Pine Hills area are tough. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Houston it's average.
