Moving to Wildwood with kids -good idea?

Hey folks, My family moved here when I was a kid. Average temperature is around 58--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a a smaller city city with about 35,168 people. Rent is about $1,575/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Wildwood sits at 108.9 per 100K. Household incomes average around $157,750 in Wildwood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I work in manufacturing here and it was the best decision I ever made. The job market for my field is improving. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

I'm a chef and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 36, moved here 2 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Westside and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The nightlife situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for remote workers. solid vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 8 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Hope this helps!.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
