Why I chose Wildwood over bigger cities

Hey folks, With a population of 35,168, Wildwood is a smaller city. Household incomes average around $157,750 in Wildwood. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much stable but now it's excellent.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 7 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The school system is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely solid and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 11 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is average.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Cedar Grove. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. it's exactly what I was looking for. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely challenging and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Sunset) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Maple Ridge. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Westside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited entertainment options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Uptown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in legal. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like seafood.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Bought a house here in 2020 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone about the same since then.
