Been meaning to ask this. The median home value here is around $541,400, which is pretty steep. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Anyone in a similar situation? Any help is appreciated. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 14 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- The job market scene is improving
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.
