Is Willis still affordable?

First post here. I relocated for work and With a population of 6,693, Willis is a small town. The median home value here is around $113,900, which is actually reasonable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Austin it's hit or miss.

I've lived in Downtown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- The cultural scene scene is improving

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.
