Moving to Williston -what should I know?

Hey folks, Household incomes average around $84,309 in Williston. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Has anyone dealt with this? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Chicago about 1 years ago. The main reasons were family and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is decent.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely challenging and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 35, moved here 6 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Springfield and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Low crime in most neighborhoods
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The dating scene situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for remote workers. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much manageable but now it's improving.
