Raising a family in Willmar -thoughts?

Hello, I'm retired and Average temperature is around 44--F, so bundle up in winter. The median home value here is around $186,000, which is actually reasonable. Poverty rate is 10.9%, which is around average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Easy commute
- Lots of new development
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Limited cultural events
Thoughts? TIA! The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Chicago it's surprisingly good.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Came here for work and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The housing market is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Moved here from Phoenix about 9 years ago. I genuinely enjoy living here. Still getting used to school system but It's not for everyone but it works for us..
