What surprised you most about Willmar?

The unemployment rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Looking forward to hearing from you all. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Atlanta about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is average.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.
