Rent in Wilmer getting crazy

Born and raised here. Household incomes average around $58,837 in Wilmer. Average temperature is around 66--F, so the weather is moderate. Crime rate is something to consider -Wilmer sits at 162.7 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Is this normal for Wilmer? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The walkability is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in South area are average. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 47, moved here 9 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Sunset and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Urban sprawl is real
3. The community vibe situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for retirees. tough vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $60K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is tough in most areas.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.
