Alright, I grew up here but left for a while. The median home value here is around $802,200, which is pretty steep. Rent is about $1,968/month for a decent place. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Does this match your experience?

I'm a social worker and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community is solid and there's always something going on.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The outdoor recreation is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- The dating scene scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..
