Moving to Wilmington -what should I know?

So, I'm a 44-year-old police officer and Homes are going for about $224,500 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Wilmington sits at 1,498.1 per 100K. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to LA it's solid.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size
- The safety scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 9 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
