Biggest downsides of living in Wilmington Island?

Been meaning to ask this. Median household income is $92,578, which feels pretty solid for the area. Household incomes average around $92,578 in Wilmington Island. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Any advice would be great. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely excellent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Uptown) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Downtown for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening
- The cultural scene scene is average

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Definitely worth checking out..
