First post here. I'm a 27-year-old police officer and With a population of 119K, Wilmington is a mid-size city. The unemployment rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Downtown for 2 years. Moved from Miami for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
education is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is tough - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Dating scene is rough. And school system can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 7/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The food scene is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..

Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the Highland side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 3 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much stable but now it's pretty good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 10 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is tough.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Happy to answer more specific questions..
