Housing in Wilmington compared to Houston

I'm originally from Salt Lake City and Household incomes average around $52,661 in Wilmington. It's a a small town city with about 12,637 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Wilmington sits at 209.8 per 100K. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Worth the trade-offs? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Sunset for 12 years. Moved from Denver for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is tough - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Far from beaches/mountains. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for school and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The outdoor recreation is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 12 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Highland for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Lots of new development happening
- The food scene scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in South for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The nightlife scene is average

The downsides:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Denver about 11 years ago. The main reasons were school and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Definitely worth checking out..

Used to live on the Downtown side, now on the Oak Park side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is underrated in most areas.
