I'm a nurse at the local hospital and You can expect to pay around $879 for rent here. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Anyone in a similar situation?

I'm a nurse and I've found it exceeded my expectations. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Cedar Grove area are solid. Kids love it here.

The food scene here is pretty good. Tons of great sushi places. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Nashville about 8 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is improving.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely excellent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Highland) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.
