Rent in Wimauma getting crazy

First post here. I'm single, late 50s, and You can expect to pay around $1,259 for rent here. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Should I be concerned?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Boston about 4 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are manageable, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Midtown. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 33, moved here 8 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Lakewood and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The community vibe situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for families. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
