Housing in Winooski compared to Charlotte

So, I work in consulting and It's a a small town city with about 8,198 people. Median household income is $77,020, which feels about average for the area. Homes are going for about $350,700 on average. Household incomes average around $77,020 in Winooski. Poverty rate is 8.1%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Great weather
- Good job market
- Nice parks and trails
- Active local events

Cons:
- Limited dining options
- Poor road conditions
- Far from major airports
Has anyone dealt with this? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Used to live on the Maple Ridge side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I've lived in Lakewood for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- The nightlife scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Winters are long and cold

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much pricey but now it's hit or miss.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 29, moved here 8 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Westside and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The cultural scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for young professionals. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
