Best and worst neighborhoods in Winston-Salem

First post here. We're a young couple and The median home value here is around $208,200, which is actually reasonable. Household incomes average around $57,673 in Winston-Salem. Poverty rate is 13.0%, which is around average. You can expect to pay around $1,033 for rent here. Rent is about $1,033/month for a decent place. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Close to nature
- Lots of new development
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Rising rent prices
- High property taxes
- Boring for young people
What would you do? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much developing but now it's improving.

I'm a chef and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. The community is underrated and there's always something going on.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 11 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
