Best apartments in Winston-Salem under ?

Hey everyone, It's a a mid-size city city with about 251K people. Household incomes average around $57,673 in Winston-Salem. Crime rate is something to consider — Winston-Salem sits at 712.4 per 100K. Poverty rate is 13.0%, which is around average. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Am I overthinking this? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Springfield for 6 years. Moved from Seattle for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is solid - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Limited high-paying job options. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Portland it's pretty good.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 41, moved here 12 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Oak Park and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Diverse dining options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The school system situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for remote workers. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $60K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in North for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- The pet-friendliness scene is solid

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 15 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.
