Housing in Winterville compared to Miami

Hello, Just moved here 10 months ago and Homes are going for about $275,000 on average. Average temperature is around 60--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a a small town city with about 2,245 people. Household incomes average around $101,849 in Winterville. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Let me know your thoughts. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Eastside area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Phoenix about 6 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 51, moved here 15 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Oak Park and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The cultural scene situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for families. average vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
