Hi all, It's a a small town city with about 17,126 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Wixom sits at 170.5 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. What are your go-to spots?

Moved here from Salt Lake City about 4 years ago. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Still getting used to outdoor recreation but It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Denver about 11 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 15 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into running, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a data analyst, 41, moved here 1 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Sunset and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Close to major attractions
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Can feel isolated
3. The dating scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for couples. improving vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $60K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
