Am I overthinking this? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from San Diego about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..

The food scene here is underrated. Tons of great Mediterranean places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.
