First post here. I grew up here but left for a while. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. The median home value here is around $1,153,200, which is pretty steep. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

I've lived in Uptown for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- The dating scene scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Miami about 2 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Hope this helps!.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 7 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
