Relocating to Woodland Park, NJ -pros and cons?

With a population of 13,284, Woodland Park is a small town. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Would love some local perspective. Thanks for reading. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Eastside. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 49, moved here 8 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Oak Park and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The cost of living situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for retirees. solid vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
