What I wish I knew before living in Woodlawn Beach
Hi all, I work in energy and Average temperature is around 68--F, so the weather is moderate. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Minneapolis about 5 years ago. The main reasons were school and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Fairview. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in education. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Korean.
No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much established but now it's excellent.

Used to live on the North side, now on the Old Town side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.
